Janet is a columnist with The Australian and The Weekend Australian. She has previously also written for the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Quadrant, The Spectator and Canada’s National Post, Vancouver Sun and Calgary Herald and The Wall Street Journal.
Prior to that, Janet worked as a solicitor at Freehills, has a doctorate in law from the University of Sydney Law School, and also taught at that Law School.
On 1 July this year Janet became chairman of the Institute of Public Affairs. And as the IPA’s John Roskam explains “yes – it’s ‘Chairman’. The origin of chairman is in the Latin word for hand, ‘manus’, and the idea of ‘occupying a chair of authority’.”
She has served as a director on boards of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the Australian National Museum, and was a member of federal government’s four-person ABC & SBS Board Appointments Panel. She is also an Ambassador and Mentor with the Australian Indigenous Education Fund.
